Yay for Tiny Little Gadgets

So I cannot talk about a super thin device that was released yesterday, but it seems to be lighter that "Air", and I am drooling to get one. Instead I am going to talk about another little device that I love. i <3 href="http://www.nintendo.com/ds">Nintendo DS. So when I got this little thing it was kind of a whim. I think I was going to be headed on a trip and wanted something to do other than read. It was also right after the New Super Mario Brothers had come out. I loved the old Plumbers games, particularly the side scrollers, and thought I would give this a try. I also picked up Mario Cart DS and Brain Age.

I was really excited to see if this new incarnation really took hold and stayed true to the "It'sa Me, Mario" roots. I must say that the New Super Mario Bros. did not disappoint. I got through it, and then it was time for something else. I started both Brain Age and Mario Cart, but they really didn't grab my attention. The Totally Rad Show turned me onto Puzzle Quest, which was extremely good and I got through in just a short couple of months (I am not an obsessive gamer. I have a semblance of a life, though it is a small semblance). After I was done that I put down the DS for some time. When I picked it back up I headed back to Mario Cart and recently completed it, which was surprisingly satisfying.

Now, Unfortunately I am stuck now. I don't know what to get as my new DS game. I am thinking the new Zelda game, but I have never really been a huge fan of Zelda. Maybe there is something else out there that I have just not see. I can't see doing the brain age thing. I use my DS to relax my bewildered head, not try to train it over and over, where is the fun in that.
Anyway, if you have any ideas let me know, and if you don't have a DS, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???
PS. This is all in anticipation for Peggle Nights

Best Crash Video in EA's New Game: Skate

I first heard about this game from the guys at the Totally Rad Show, and then I saw this on Digg. Trust me, take a look at this video (sorry, I cannot embed it).

The King of Quarters

So Matt recently posted about the King of Kong. This is a movie about a middle school science teacher and a Hot Sauce Mogul. If that doesn't get you excited, I don't know what will.

Seriously, I am really excited to see this, maybe at the Charles theater, but probably on DVD. I mean it is a documentary about Donkey Kong... How can you go wrong???
Plus the tagline of "Don't get Chumpatized", is that not the best thing ever.

Madden 2008

So about two weeks ago I purchased Madden 2008 for my PS2 (yeah, I still use PS2). After playing for a bit I have some impressions that I would like to share.

I should state upfront that I am a Madden Guy, but I only buy it every other year, unless there is something really revolutionary. So I am judging 2008 after playing 2006 for the past two years. With that in mind, I am pretty disappointed overall.

Don't get me wrong there are some great things about the games that I love. I love precision passing, the hit stick, the audibles and line adjustments, even the alternative jerseys, but all of that was available in 2006. My biggest issue with 2008 is that there is very little new. They added some new tackling animations, which are really cool, the roster update which is expected, and a pretty interesting training process, but the took away some things that I liked. First of which is Tony Bruno. You may be asking yourself WTF?!? Who the hell is Tony Bruno. This is the guy who did the "radio show" in between games. It was nice to hear discussion about what was going on each week while trolling through the menus.

They did add a great deal of texture to the game, making it look really good, but this causes the game to preform pretty badly, it is slow, sometimes herky jerky and don't even try to pull up the national or local paper. You will need to wait quite a while for those articles to load, even when you are just switching between them.

This brings me to my final point, there are to many things in the game that are EXACTLY THE SAME in this version when compared to 2006. Finish a training camp drill, here there is the same cheesy cut scene. Win a game, you will see your QB, TE and RB with there silly poses. The news articles are the same... SAME SAME SAME.

Look EA does a great job with Madden, and If i was on a next gen console I may have a different experience, but at this point I am just not as impressed as I have been in the past. Don't get me wrong, I will be playing Madden pretty much non stop for a while, I just wish I was playing something better.

Overall, i am going to give Madden a punt for this year. Hopefully Madden 2010 will be different.
